Flowers,Ikebana and I

After 32 years I retired from Jones New York Company as pattern maker. Working at the garden and seeing beautiful flowers is the best way to lessen my frustrations. Since 2008 I joined Sogetsu School Ikebana class under Ms.Meei-Huey Lin,well known Ikebana Instructor in this area. I would like to share with you some of my Ikebana arrangements done at the classes. Welcome for your kind criticism.

Interwoven Art and Ikebana-A floral focus on Baskets

The way of flowers and the way of Tea are parts of Japanese life as well as art and culture. Bamboo baskets is intimately interwoven with these two ways. Baskets are used in many ways in Ikebana. Different Ikebana schools and artists approach baskets in their own way. This month Philadelphia Ikebana International held a program to watch our own talented members to create Ikebana with baskets.  Six artists demonstrated eight beautiful arrangements. After  artists demonstrated I believe we will appreciate bamboo baskets more.(4-24-14)
