Shofuso - Japanese House and Garden

Escape to Japan in west Fairmount Park Philadelphia.  Shofuso, Japanese House and Garden is a traditional style Japanese and nationally-ranked garden in Philadelphia's west Fairmount park. A viewing garden with koi pond and island, a tea garden, and a courtyard garden comprise the 17th century-style Japanese walled and fenced garden of this historic site.     Our Sensei Ms. Lin provided one Ikebana arrangements to Shofuso on Aug. 17th to 19th, 2012 exhibition.

Paper and Ikebana - Glory

 Paper and Ikebana were our assignments for this lesson.  It was a free expression for us using paper with Ikebana arrangement. I was inspired by London 2012 Olympic games. Here are the flames, five Olympic rings  and gold medal.  It is glory !

 Although we had this assignment before, but Ms. Lin want us push one more step up. Try to use at lease five different kind of leaves.

  I finished presentation this afternoon for Japanese flowers arrangement. The garden club members enjoyed very much, it was a very successful presentation indeed. I used power point to introduce Ikebana and then demonstrated three styles such as up right and slanting Moribana and up right Nageire those basic styles and prearranged some of the arrangement in the crafts room before the event. Metamorphosis


Material: Gloriosa lily, button mums ,one Pieris branch,one Heliopsis leaf and Zebra grass

My husband's painting and my arrangement. It transform to a another level of world of Ikebana
 We have new idea for today's lesson. Bring in one of the picture, and we will arrange an arrangement inspired by that picture. It may be from one of the colors, some thing remind of the picture, or the emotion you have at the time you were painting .... I was inspired by my husband's painting all of flowers from our old garden, and my arrangement with this picture develops new relatively conspicuous and influenced the development of ideas of evolution.  Free style low horizontal composition using two kinds of branches.Teacher want us to arrange one of basic arrangement  today. I choose to practise this composition again. (7-3-2012)

In the woods

Taken outside. Hydrangeas was given when I visited Betsy's garden
We had garden tour in our community last weekend.  People try to use every square inch of ground in a small space and a small yard, so cozy and pretty. But you can not miss the powerful display of Hydrangeas.

Have fun - not test

For the second part of arrangement,teacher gave us materials and go.We had to finish in 25 min. This is my creation within 25 min. We really enjoyed and have fun, for Japanese flower arrangement are for pure enjoyment and never judged. (6-19-12)

Our teacher was not feeling well last time(class was canceled). So we have same title today for the class, using the glass container and inside the container will be the focal point of the arrangement, as if it is a stage of the show. After lesson we learned something and got a better idea.(6-19-12)

Yucca

Four yucca leaves,one peace lily and mums.

My teacher Ms. Lin gave me Yucca plant two years ago. It's growing healthy and beautiful now.  I like nature beauty of yucca's leaves. Here is my arrangement for Yucca leaves. Peace lily and mums were taken home after class. (6-19-12)

The material was given to me by Ms. Lin. At home, I arranged in the new container which I purchased  in Kyushu Japan.(6-20-12)

Focusing on the uses of Water -chater 1


Three Calla lily, stricta grass and flirtation orange(Diascia hybrid)
container: glass vase (11"'x8")

Curve calla lily stems and flowers of  flirtation orange floating between them. You will discover an unique focal point inside the glass vase.
 Extend the glass container as if it is a stage of the show. Therefore inside the container will be the focal point of the arrangement.(6-5-12)
